his month's Irish Whiskey Society tasting is an introduction to the newly expanded range from one of Ireland's best-loved whiskey brands - Tullamore Dew. This historic brand is notable as the first significant blended Irish whiskey, and was the main product of the old Daly distillery in Tullamore until production closed there and switched to Midleton. For many years, the dew has been one of Irish whiskey's bestsellers, especially on the continent, but last year the brand was bought over by Scotch giants William Grant, who have given the venerable brand an exciting makeover.

Now Tullamore Dew's range has expanded to include single malts, including a unique four-wood aged 10 year old, reserve bottlings at 10 and 12 years old, and the vibrant small batch Black 43 Tullamore Dew, as well as the long-loved blend. This tasting will be a great opportunity to explore one of Ireland's true heritage brands and discover what its new owners have planned in future. In the company of John Quinn, Tullamore Dew's global brand ambassador, we will sample the range of Tullamores and discover where this great brand is headed in the 21st century.

Whiskeys

Note: At the end of the night we vote for our favourite whiskey. Number of votes and placing are included in the tables below.

We voted first on our favourite whiskey from the modern Tullamore Dews (the first five below). That was convincingly won by the Black 43.

We then voted on our preferred bottling between the two older bottlings from John's Lane. The later version won, 25 to 10 votes.

Finally, we voted on the old Dews v the modern Tullamore Dew Original. The old won, 21 votes to 14.
