Event DescriptionYes, it's that time of the year again when the Irish Whiskey Society holds its annual general meeting. The IWS exists for its members, and we would be delighted to see as many as possible come along to this year's AGM. This is when we establish the committee and begin to formulate our plans for next year, and we would be keen to hear from any member who has ideas for improving the society or who would like to take a more hands-on role by joining the IWS committee. We have some amendments to the constitution which have been proposed and will be debated at the AGM. Any member in good standing who has an amendment to propose should forward it as soon as possible to the committee. It has been another successful year for the society, with packed attendances at our tastings, the world launch of whiskeys at IWS meetings, the founding of an IWS chapter in the United States, and another highly regarded bottling in the Premier Crew, which is still available for purchase. We hope to build on that success even more next year, with further tastings, bottlings and more expansion of the society. Should we hold tastings outside of Dublin? Arrange society trips to distilleries? Publish our own whiskey books? What tastings should we host? Please come along and tell us how YOU would like to see the society progress in 2011. We'd like to hear from members how we can improve what we do, and would love to encourage more members to get involved. We appreciate that meetings can sometimes be boring, so by way of incentive, we couple the AGM with the President's whiskey tasting, an extra-special tasting designed by our outgoing President Gary Mongey. In his two years at the helm, the society has gone from strength to strength, and Gary intends to celebrate his final tasting in charge by hosting a superlative tasting, packed with delicious and exclusive drams that are close to his heart. Last year, we experienced some spectacular Irish whiskeys in the President's Tasting, and we have a much increased budget for the President's Tasting compared to our usual monthly tastings, so you can be assured of sampling some truly amazing whiskeys on the night. This tasting is exclusively for MEMBERS ONLY and seating is limited, so please book as soon as possible. All members will be admitted to the AGM, but only those who have booked in advance will be able to remain for the President's Tasting. After two busy years, Gary is set to lay down his malting shovel at last, but not before one last indulgent and exuberant tasting of his personal favourite whiskeys.
