The History of the Society

For years, Irish whiskey afficionados had lamented the lack of a society to honour a drink that, very likely, was first distilled in Ireland. In the end, it took an expat Scot, Michael Foggarty, to bring everyone together in Bowe's Pub in Dublin on January 29th, 2009, where the society was officially launched.

Michael is well known around Dublin as a tireless whiskey evangelist, following in the footsteps of his illustrious compatriot, John Jameson. Scotland and the Scots have always had a huge and very welcome influence on Irish whiskey.

It's still early days for the society but we already have a mission, a constitution, a tireless committee and a share in a special cask of Cooley whiskey that members will enjoy later in 2009.
