Meet the Distiller – Noel Sweeney

January’s tasting provided a recap of some of the new releases of 2014 and it proved quite popular, some very tasty whiskies were included in the line-up.  February see the first of what we hope to be many more in our ongoing series Meet the Distiller.  This month sees Noel Sweeney from Cooley join us to give us an insight into his trade.  Noel has been at the heart of Cooley and Kilbeggan's many different variations and has been at the forefront of the innovation seen in Irish Whiskey over the last 2 decades.  Head over to our booking site in order to reserve your spot at what is sure to be a very interesting evening.

The Irish Whiskey Society trip to Dingle

In what new seems to be an annual event the Irish Whiskey Society is planning a tasting event in Dingle again, this time Benner’s Hotel on the Main Street is hosting us.  On Friday 10th April starting at 8pm we will run a very special tasting event.  A specially agreed rate has been agreed with the hotel for those who wish to travel to the tasting. It is €119 for double B&B (usually €134) for the Friday night or €104 per night for double B&B for both Friday and Saturday night and €90 for single Friday night or €80 for single per night for both Friday and Saturday night. Please mention the Irish Whiskey Society when booking your room.

Industry News

Only 2 months into the year and already there’s been some new releases to the Irish marketplace.  An unexpected release of an all Sherry Cask Redbreast 12 year old, Mano a Lámh was released along with a new Kilbeggan 8 year old Single Grain.  Hopefully this is the first of many exciting new releases over the coming months.

If you have news that you’d like us to share, please email and if appropriate we will include the news in a forthcoming newsletter.

Membership & Tasting Attendance

As always new members are always welcome, head along to our website to see how to join up, you can also take a look at our previous tastings to see what we’ve sampled.  Non-members are also always welcome at our tastings to see the whiskies that we taste, and we encourage all to come along to indulge in their curiosity of whiskey.  As always though, please drink responsibly, be aware of your limits.
