At the recent Irish Whiskey Society tasting of Power’s Whiskey, members were given the opportunity to handle - and to sniff ! - part of a stave from the washback of the old John’s Lane distillery. The distillery closed over 40 years ago, yet when this surviving stave was recently sawn through the aroma from the wash- permeated wood escapes and assails the senses. It’s like releasing the genie from the wood.
Some members expressed a wish to acquire a portion of the remainder of the stave; this now available in 3” long blocks. (The stave is approximately 2.5” thick and 5”wide.)
These are available to be picked up in The Celtic Whiskey Shop in Dawson Street, Dublin on a first-come basis. There are about 15 blocks. There is no charge, but we would like you to make a €5 donation to the charity Mary’s Meals.
