From "Single Pot Still" to "Single Malt", from "Grain Whiskey" to "Blended Irish" and now perhaps a "Pot Still Blend", the variety can be bewildering even to the hardiest of whiskey connoisseur's.

Fear not, as the Cork Chapter of the Irish Whiskey Society aim to give you a general all-out-learning extravaganza and Irish whiskey experience not to be missed.

This technical tasting will clear up, once and for all, those murky clouds of amateurish thoughts, so you can proudly walk away a more informed and contented Irish whiskey drinker.

You will be led through a selection of various Irish whiskey styles and talked through how each style is produced:

* Single Pot Still - the spanking new Powers Three Swallows!
* Single Grain - a grain whiskey of some repute is all we'll say!
* Single Malt - Jack Ryan's Beggars Bush 12 Year Old no less!

You will also learn a thing or two about whiskey maturation while tasting:
* Jack Ryan's Beggars Bush 12 Year Old Cask Strength
* Hyde 10 Year Old Presidents Cask Sherry Finish
* Hyde 10 Year Old Presidents cask Rum Finish

To make a brilliant night even better, we've managed to convince the men behind some of these fabulous Irish brands to come pay us a visit to tell us their stories.

Conor Hyde of Hyde Irish whiskey and Eunan Ryan of Jack Ryan's Irish whiskey will proudly showcase their wares to the assembled whiskey loving guests.

And if that still doesn't float your boat, perhaps you've not considered the Oliver Plunkett venue itself.
This ever popular Cork watering hole is one of the go to places for the parched whiskey lover- sporting, as it does; the upstairs whiskey bar that seems to soar off into infinity with a variety of oak casks, known to the initiated, or already anointed, as the Frisky Whiskey Bar. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it (when you get there you'll know what I mean)!

They say "every day is a school day", so make sure to turn up on the 28th October for what will be, based on the liquid subject matter, one of the most awe inspiring classes you'll ever sit through.
