Focus on Grains

28th September 2023, Wynn's Hotel, Dublin 1

OR

Remotely via live streaming on the IWS YouTube Channel

Throughout most of whisky history, GRAINS have played a supporting role, contributing volume to blends while malt or pot still whiskies took the spotlight with their distinct flavours and character. However, these unsung heroes are now stepping out of the shadows and gaining recognition as standalone bottlings.

Join us on a captivating journey through time as we explore the origins of grain expressions, their current significance, and what the future holds in store.

First, we'll embark on a voyage to Scotland, where we'll savor some exceptionally aged expressions:

  • Compass Box Hedonism² 23 Years Old
  • Girvan 26 Years Old
  • Invergordon 45 Years Old

Then, we'll delve into today's vibrant Irish grain expressions with two remarkable selections from Teelings and Lough Ree:

  • Lough Ree 13 Year Old Inny Bay
  • Teeling 15 Year Old Vintage Single Grain

Finally, we'll peer into the future of grain expressions with a sample from the emerging powerhouse of the Irish Whiskey Industry, the Great Northern Distillery.

  • GND 7 Year Old finished in a Newly Charred Oak Cask

Members who join this tasting will also receive a free sample of Curraghmore - The Single Estate Whiskey. The society was generously provided two bottles of their inaugural release which we are sharing with our members via our Dram of the Month. This limited release was distilled and blended by industry veteran, Noel Sweeney, from 100% Waterford grain. Only 1,375 bottles were produced of this new and promising Pot Still Irish Whiskey.

Booking opens on Friday 8th September at 7.00pm and there will be an option to purchase in-person and online tickets so please double-check you are selecting the correct one as the price for online is slightly higher to account for postage and packaging.
